GEELONG star Patrick Dangerfield will receive a hostile reception when he returns to face his old side Adelaide in Friday night’s preliminary final at Adelaide Oval.
The Cats, who dismantled the Sydney Swans in last Friday’s semi-final at the MCG, now face the Crows who are fresh from a week off following their win over Greater Western Sydney in the first week of the finals.
Dangerfield was instrumental in the Cats’ win over the Swans’ last weekend and it’s no secret that he is looking forward to a hot contest against his former side.
“I can’t wait, bring it on.” Dangerfield said in a post-game interview.
After dominating the Swans’ as a key forward, one of the hot topics for Friday’s clash is where the star midfielder will play this weekend, a situation that doesn’t bother him.
“I’ll do whatever the coach says to be honest,” he said.
“It’s always a collaboration, but they have a game plan the coaches want to implement and I thought they coached really well tonight,”
“The key for us is to actually execute on the field, and that’s what we did.”
Whilst Adelaide supporters will be excited at the prospect of knocking their former favourite son out of the finals, ex-teammate Josh Jenkins raised headlines last week when suggesting that Dangerfield could have missed out on becoming a premiership player with the Crows.
“If he marches into town with his Geelong teammates, there’d be nothing better than beating him and reminding him that perhaps he should have stuck around with us and he could be a Brownlow Medallist and premiership player,” Jenkins said.
The Cats have won four of the last five matches against the Crows, with the Crows winning the most recent encounter by 21-points in Adelaide during round 18.
The winner will play Richmond or Greater Western Sydney in the AFL Grand Final next weekend.
