THE Los Angeles Lakers remain the number one team many are expecting Cavaliers’ superstar LeBron James to sign for this summer – but ‘King James’ won’t make the move by himself says NBA insider Chris Broussard.
With Golden State now holding a 3-1 ascendency over James’ in the finals, and the Laker’s still shelving a young roster, Broussard believes it’ll take more than a talented line-up to seduce James’ to LA should he exercise his player option and enter free agency.
“I think everything is lining up for LeBron to come to the Lakers, assuming he comes with another star,” Broussard said on FS1 program ‘Undisputed’ on Tuesday.
Oklahoma City Thunder star Paul George is a player who has been heavily linked with a move to the Lakers throughout the season, and Broussard believes it would take a guaranteed signing of someone like George to help land James in LA.
“I think Paul George at the very least will go there if LeBron goes, that’s definite,“
“They (Lakers) could sign two max contract guys, Paul George and LeBron outright,”
Whilst the Cavaliers’ will still be holding out hope that James’ stays in Cleveland, the Lakers’ face stiff competition from teams such as the Philadelphia 76ers, Houston Rockets and San Antonio Spurs among others to secure James’ signature.
Even though the Lakers’ having the most cap space out of any team chasing James’, they equally have the most inexperienced roster.
Out of all of James’ most realistic homes for next season onwards, the Lakers are the only one to have missed the playoffs last season, highlighting the need for them to target another star to help propel them into finals contention next year.
Paul George isn’t the only player that has been linked with the Lakers in recent weeks however, with the Spurs star Kawhi Leonard’s name also being associated with a move to the Lakers.
Broussard also addressed the remarkable and more trivial possibility of Kevin Durant leaving Golden State and ‘teaming up’ with LeBron in Los Angeles.
“Two weeks ago I was hearing rumblings that KD wasn’t as happy as he could be in Golden State,”
“That got me thinking I wonder if he could leave and he and LeBron could team up with the Lakers,”
“Since Durant has said he will resign with Golden State I don’t think it’ll happen,”
“He (Durant) is a competitor, I’m sure he wants to win more rings than LeBron,”
“He is in a position to keep LeBron from ever winning another ring.”
